The distinctively unpretentious, deep, rich, and smooth voice who earned her recognition as one of India’s premiere singers….who is one of the very first artists to receive MTV Immies Award, for her chartbusting song “Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo”. She is none other than “Sonu Kakkar”.
She opened her eyes in the small town of Rishikesh, Uttaranchal on October 20th. Giving her full support with her parents who agreed shifting to Delhi where she used to sing Mata’s Bhajan in jagrans and finally to Mumbai a place where her dreams lies.
Sonu Kakkar is a versatile singer who has come up a long way in a very short span of time. She left her mark however on the world and such a mark it was that the famous bollywood Music Director “Mr. Sandeep Chowta” said Sonu as one of his favorite singer, after listening her full-throated voice at a talent hunt show, and there he promised to give her chance to sing for his next film. Kakkar literally hero worships mentor Chowta. She respects him tremendously as a composer.
She endeared herself far and wide with an operatic voice that made people listen. But, perhaps more important, was her ability to establish a strong communication between herself and her audience. She made her debut in the film Dum starred Vivek Oberoi and Diya Mirza with the Most Popular Song Of The Year 2003 Babuji Jara Dheere Chalo picturised on Yana Gupta and music by Sandeep Chowta. This ultimate Raunching Dance Number that makes E.Niwas Dum eminently worthwhile.
And during her celebrated career her roles included Sandeep Chowta’s non-film album Mitti, which created, waves everywhere. Her song Call Of The Lover Sun Charkhe Di a very emotional and heart wrenching folksy number is directed by Sandeep Chowta himself for the first time, which makes Kakkar feel proud. Then she sang a classical number in Kaizad Gustad’s Boom the song was Seduction Saanwaria so beautifully sung by her and was critically appreciated a lot too.
And a beautiful number Shaadi Se Pehle Honeymoon in Govind Menon’s Kis Kis Ki Kismat, starring Mallika Sherawat and Dharmendra, a dancing number in Ram Gopal Verma’s Naach and an item number composed by Sen brothers in Guddu Dhanoa’s Sheesha.
Then she showed her vocals talent in Smita Thakrey production Sandwich starring Govinda and mahima chaudhary, the song is called Sayonee Mainu Ishque Ho Gaya composed by Sukhwinder Singh, Farukh Siddhiqui’s Revati,
As she is becoming popular day by day in Sufi singing also. Recently she sang in album called Euphoric Sufis from times music with living legends like Abida Parveen, Shubha mudgal etc. one song (sufi) in album Channa vey and three songs in Sandeep chowta’s own album from times music.
From her earliest days as a singer, Sonu showed the potent combination of independent spirit, appetite for work, and natural talent that would fuel her for some fifty years. Fans all over the world flocked to hear her. She has done uncountable shows, performance in India as well as abroad, along with her sister Neha she makes her audience spell bounded. She says the “Singing is my Passion”.
Now she has come up with an interesting and a different kind of album “Mallika I Hate you”. The club mix of the song Mallika I hate you is been picturised on Sonu Kakkar herself along with international models and artists.
Her recent projects as a playback singer are “Corporate” of Madhur Bhandarkar in which she has sung the song called O SIKANDAR, RISK(“Hichki” song picturised on tanushree dutta),DELHI HEIGHTS and Latest film Mukhbiir has song Jeena picturised
On sonu herself. She is also working with A.R Rahman, Anand Raj Anand, and Sandesh Shandilya.
Once she started her carrier in music industry, there was no looking back for her. She has won many awards for the singing and within a short span of time, she has reached the glorious of her carrier already and there is yet more to go according to her.
